Developer Spotlight: RunningMap.com
Randy Troppmann (with designer/developer Sarah Ramsden) reports continued success with the Yahoo! Maps and Flickr APIs on RunningMap.com. Visitors can create, edit, save, share, and add Flickr photos to maps of their favorite running routes. Or, if you've forgotten your permalink, you can search over 13,000 user-generated routes.

RunningMap is quick, easy to use, and does just the sort of thing we were hoping for when we started opening up the APIs: it meets an ongoing need that could only be expressed and fulfilled by a committed online community. Congratulations, folks; we'll see you on the road.

Runningmap has help hundreds of thousands of people. This simply would not have happened without the Yahoo! Maps Flash component.
Thanks to Grant Skinner for telling me about Yahoo! Maps and Lanny McNie for help with the initial build where I was able to solve the lat/lon problem.
Runningmap with the current ActionScript 2 based version of the Yahoo Maps component is pushing Flash to its limits. To go to the next step, Runningmap desperately needs to move to AS3 to take advantage of the 10 x perfomance increase. Maps in Flash and Flex is your competitive advantage. Don't leave it behind :)
