Yahoo! Maps Go AJAX

Yahoo! MapsYou'd hardly know it by going to maps.yahoo.com, but Yahoo! Maps are now pure JavaScript instead of a hybrid of Flash and JavaScript. Lead Maps Developer Mirek Grymuza and the Maps team have done an amazing job of seamlessly moving the Maps client over resulting in at least double the performance of the previous Flash-based version.

The good news for developers is that the new Yahoo! Maps client uses an enhanced version of our Maps AJAX API which will be available to developers in 2008. This substantial upgrade of the Maps API will provide access to all the overlay components available in the consumer client and will give developers significant overlay flexibility. It's going to be a great new year for Yahoo! Maps users and developers.

Hello, you write "You'd hardly know it by going to maps.yahoo.com, but Yahoo! Maps are now pure JavaScript instead of a hybrid of Flash and JavaScript.". Actually the difference is like night and day for those of us who keep Flash switched off by default. I used to get blank spaces when I accidentally encountered the old-style Yahoo maps. Now I can actually see them.

By the way, although I can see the official Yahoo maps, I often get a blank screen when I encounter maps built with the Yahoo Maps API. i believe it's because your Maps API code contains CSS and other syntax errors. I see a whole bunch of these errors when I enable the error console in Opera.

Can you please make your finance charts to be based on pure javascript as well instead of flash technology? Your charts are not usable right now. Please make the change so I can go back to my favorite charts.
Thanks,
Someone who cares.

The "Get an App ID" link seems to be down. Any idea where I can get one?

Hi, there's a problem with one of the machines getting https requests (somewhere between you and the machine, they're getting denied). The good news is that you can go in via http and it should work fine. http://developer.yahoo.com/wsregapp/

I've updated the various links on the site to point to that location.

I sure did appreciate the old Yahoo maps. It was nice and stable and I could see what I got and get what I saw and copy what I got to a Word document. It's not working anywhere near as well with the new stuff. Guess I'll need to go back to paper maps unless you can help me get to the nice older stable version of Yahoo maps.
