YDN University Seminars in Turkey

In October, five big universities in Turkey invited us to talk about the Yahoo! Developer Network. This was really important for us, as the time coincided with a special period for Y!OS. We had Yahoo! Profiles launch in Turkey and got the chance to announce it while giving presentations to many university students. Profiles launch may have a special side for Turkey as we really love social networks in Turkey. As an example, we have the fourth biggest network on Facebook. So, Turkey has a very special profile in our minds as it's the youngest country of Europe and has a fast growing internet penetration.

Volkan Bicer presenting

YDN seminars were hosted by Boğaziçi, ODTU, Bilkent, TOBB ETU, Hacettepe Universities with their Engineer/Computer Clubs and the IEEE student org. It’s very honorable for us to be invited by them and we got the chance to talk about how YDN can help them on their projects. We gave examples of API usage and showed them how simple it is to use an API in their projects. YUI Library is another part that they’re really interested in.

Entrepreneurship on web based projects is now very popular in Turkey, we also tried to show them that with the community based work using YDN, their start up projects can grow faster. The audience was mainly computer engineering students which make the presentations very valuable both for them and us to catch the right audience with the right content.

Audience listening

We also delivered YDN t-shirts at the end of the seminars and the participants really liked them. After 5 days we had no more t-shirts left, having delivered more than 300. We promised to send more supplies for the later talks.

For these seminars, our special thanks to Boğaziçi Engineering Society, ODTU Computer Club, Bilkent Computer Club, Hacettepe IEEE student organization, TOBB ETU Computer Club.

Yahoo! Developer Network Seminar at Bilkent University was a great experience for both of our Computer Club members and attendants. We have spent an interesting lunch time by learning the developer side of Yahoo! Community and how we can contribute to it individually. Also everybody like the YDN t-shirts and it would be better to have more because there were approximately 100 person in the conference hall.
Another interesting point was to learn what Yahoo! Hack Day is. Everybody looks eager to learn its details and to attend it and if possible to organize it in Bilkent. We will be pleased to hold upcoming Yahoo! activities including Yahoo! Hack Day and it will be great fun!

In Turkey, we can darely say that, universities are seen as higher level of high school. However, the truth is much different than that, students every day all what they did is going to school, doing homework is far away from real world.

I attend this conference at Bilkent, and thanks to Volkan Bicer, i realized those truths again. After conference, i took twitter, friendfeed and linkedIn account. Now, i have a blog and i wrote my Bilkent observations. Also i have Yahoo profiles and yahoo mail for myself. I'm investigating Yahoo! API s, and thinking of new projects.

All of them are what i get and Volkan Bicer's attitude of us make that really easy. I'm very happy to attending this conference. And again, Thank you Volkan.

Best Regards.

Hi,
I am the president of executive board at Engineering Society at Boğaziçi University. We are glad to welcome Yahoo in our university. It was very interesting and informative. Although I'm a management student I understood how it works :)

I hope the next Hack Days is held at Boğaziçi..

I had the chance of participating this seminar in Bilkent. I could say that it was enjoyable and informative. I very much like the Yahoo!'s attitude towards the other companies. I had expected that Yahoo gave their advertisements and the api and the other products of Yahoo but I was just disappointed not that I did not see any advertisements of Yahoo but they presented web thoroughly.and equally.Especially, I did not know that the social network sites like linkedin play such an important role in businees life.

I also want to thank to Mr Bicer for his powerful performance. I attend to the conferance that was in ODTU, and I have learned a lot about Y! I hope such conferances keep on and we attend them..
look forward to see Y! in our cmpus again..

I agree with Alaettin, Y! ODTU performance was so good. In my opinion, Y! and Y! Turkey made a great sense with that presentation. I think that Y! should take place more on more in organizations in Turkey. It has a significant effect on reputation of Y! among Turkish students.

Thanks a lot guys, it was really great for me to be with you @ your campuses. Hopefully in a short time we'll have further workshops with you about API'S, YUI, YAP and so on...

I can obviously say i'm glad to see Yahoo! with Volkan Bicer in H-UN.That's why, i believe i've learned lots of beneficial information in order to use to develop a web site by using Yahoo's APIs. In addition, I understood that I have to choose a way which i want to be at its end,and i have to work hard for that way ends with my dream(i deducted these thinks when we talked about Facebook Maker and the others:) I want to firstly thank Volkan Bicer, then Yahoo for their visiting Hacettepe....
