Single Update PUT returns 405 Method Not Allowed

- The app (id: 2Jc49t4i) is set to request read/write for Updates
- I'm logged in as the developer of the app
- I approved the permissions as the end user
- When I post the following updates call to the REST, I get a 405 back and cannot for the life of me figure out why. I have a set status call working fine.

My questions is how to convert TIMESTAMP value to a Java Date or Calendar Object ?.....

nomoredistance @nataliardianto you need an actual statement in the end. Try: USE "http://devel.urbanesia.com/yql/search.xml" AS foo; SELECT * FROM foo;

This is totally silly. I previously copy paste an example with new line in it, and it didn't work! I then write it down in one single line, and voila! Hope this helps someone since the search result is so scarce when searching this keyword.

I send it to my javascript from java to open a new window
window.open(yahooLogin,'Yahoo Login','scrollbars=yes,resizable=yes, width=650,height=400')

but now I am confused, how would I get oauth_verifier. Once I click on complete button on yahoo login, I go get another window with www.site.com/oauth_token=ewvee2n&oauth_verifier=hqjqyh. But I dont know, how can I capture that response in my javascript.

Can you use document.location to get at the url?

Be sure you're setting the OAuth callback_url correctly too, so the OAuth provider can send the verifier back to the file containing your JavaScript.

Trouble verifying domain

Hi,

I'm having issues verifying www.5ftshelf.com as an OAuth application. I have tried several times throughout the day and with several different file names. In all cases have verified the file is reachable in both the browser and with a wget. The error message I get when hitting the problem is:

"There was an internal error while an application is being created. Please try again."

If I remove the file I get a different error about not being able to get the file, so clearly the Yahoo servers are seeing the file. As per the instructions the file created is empty but googling around I noticed other people have had their oauth token in the file. This is not possible for me as I haven't been told the token at this point.

I am able to create a desktop app oauth key/secret but cannot use this to make requests from 5ftshelf.com presumably?

I've heard of issues w/ subdomains containing a leading numeric character, so I suspect the problem is not on your side. I'll report your experience to the folks investigating this. The only workaround I can recommend for now is to use a domain or subdomain w/ a leading alpha char, eg example.com or sub.example.com

I have been trying to get the contact list of an user. As mentioned in the document, http://social.yahooapis.com/v1/user/{guid}/contacts returns first 10 contacts by default. this works fine for me.

But when I add count matrix parameter it doesn't work. it gives me 401 signature_invalid. In-fact, it doesn't work with any matrix parameter.

I am using QOAuth library in Qt 4.5.3.

Cannot register OAuth project on non-standard port

I want to register a dev version of my project on a webserver not on port 80 (8888 in fact). But this port is stripped out, initially at least when setting up the "confirmation" empty html page.

In theory I could temporarily assign my app to port 80, but not permanently (it's actually my router admin page), and I suspect the OAuth stuff needs a permanent base URL.

Anyone got any ideas?

I hit this too. I just had to verify the the port-80 domain. But, you can use non-80 URLs in the callback, just not to verify.

produces a plain array in query.results.Result, not an array of named elements, no field names at all. Since the returned fields are unnamed, there is no way to sort them or do any operation since there is no way to refer to them.

Actually, any reply that has just one field in the reply returns no field names. So, the structure of the reply changes depending on whether you are asking one field or many. This lack of consistency in the reply makes it harder to use as a generic tool. If you provide your users with a series of checkboxes to select which fields to pick, when the number of fields selected goes down to 1, your processing turns out different than when there is more than one? That is not good

I'm trying to build a pipe and I'm stuck with a YQL issue. I need a query like this:

The query runs fine when some_text contains just ascii characters. But it returns null results --which is wrong-- when some_text contain non ascii characters, like extended latin characters, or Greek characters which is what I need to use it with. The page where the query runs on at some_url has a utf-8 encoding and shows up just fine.

I've set up a test file at http://mytests.atwebpages.com/test2.html duplicating the structure of the source page I'm working with.

This query returns 2 items as expected:

The best thing that I could suggest to build out the OAuth flow and make requests to our systems would be to look at the OpenSocial REST API for C# at http://code.google.com/p/opensocial-net-client/ . Since we support those libraries you could look through the code and see what is required to make an authenticated request to our servers.

In your case, it might be easier to write an open data table around the RSS feed that comes from uk.news.search.yahoo.com since search.news only gives back 2 weeks worth of data.

There are a number of social APIs that we have available that will allow you to capture information about the user:

To access the address book (or contacts) of a user to capture the e-mail (if available) then you can use the contacts API: http://developer.yahoo.com/social/contacts/

To capture the profile of the user you can use the social directory API: http://developer.yahoo.com/social/rest_api...al_dir_api.html

Both of those APIs use OAuth so you'll need to switch your authentication method to that as well.

It appears that the user's email address cannot be captured. If you can try Yahoo! Social API Explorer ( http://zhouyaoji.com/apiexplorer/yahoo_soc...i_explorer.php), you'll see that returned user profile data does not include the email address.

Also, the page where you set up your application's permissions has the following paragraph:

Yahoo! Profiles - Required for OpenSocial

This API will allow your application access to user data marked as public or restricted to connections only on their Yahoo! Profile including shared connections lists. This does not include the users email address.

Also, I only use Y!Mail to see if I received any emails from my Y!A contacts. I attached ONE big file ONCE, and it was like a month ago, but YESTERDAY i started getting these things asking if I should allow BrowserPlusCore.exe to access the internet (you know that thing that pops up on the right)?

Do I allow it? I'm not attaching any files whatsoever, is it some virus version of it or something? Please help!

Hiya, I'm trying to use oAuth to verify credentials for use with delicious. I'm working on a desktop application and I can get as far as Step 5/6/7-ish following your scale here (http://delicious.com/help/oauthapi).

Using the same core oAuth component that I use for Twitter (successfully), I'm having problems requesting tags for a URL. So I'm using "https://api.del.icio.us/v2/posts/suggest". I've written this in basic authentication using POST, so I plan on posting the URL parameter.

My attempt gives me the 401 authorization error.

Perhaps I'm not sending the correct information in the Auth Header? Here's what I'm sending as a base header: oauth_timestamp, oauth_nonce, oauth_signature_method, oauth_consumer_key, oauth_version, oauth_token.

I've read a few posts noting an inconsistent oauth_token on Yahoo's side (http://developer.yahoo.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=549). I however tried keeping an unencoded version, encoding, and encoding twice. All with no avail.

I've also tried taking the url parameter out of the header (scraping for reasons), and that didn't work either.

Any suggestions?

As you can see, I fixed the encoding problem you pointed out.
When I sign with HMAC, I use "&".
Then I build the URL string before the actual request. Using the standard GET format:

I'll see if I can recreate a similar scenario. What platform are you running BrowserPlus on? Are you uploading to localhost or a remote web server? What web server are you using?

This is because there is no easy way to associate the text elements between XML and JSON. We've discussed this problem before and the best solution today is to use the hybrid version where you ask for JSON in XML format

All you have to do is issue the query with an additional query parameter called callback ensuring that the format parameter is set to 'xml'. THis gets you back the XML data in the JSON envelope which you can then directly add to your webpage by setting innerhtml

Creating runtime flash object(embed/object element) using yml:swf works fine. But doesn't work fine, If it is created out of user action like click, keypress, etc.

The yml tags will render down to their base level html / js / css on initial page build, so the yml tag will not build itself when innerHTML is called. What you'll want to do is wrap the user click action in a yml:a tag with an insert parameter of the node you want to insert the flash into. When yml:a is clicked, the params parameter should be set to a server side script that will return your yml:swf tag. When it is inserted into the page it'll render how you need it to. This will only work if the yml:swf is loaded through another yml tag.

I have several computers running either XP or Vista (64 bit). If I attempt on the Vista machine to attach a 760 kb and a 1.9 meg file they initially load in reduced size, as expected. When I then select the option to return to the original size the smaller file succeeds but the larger one returns with the message '1 file(s) can't be sent'. This happens equally with both IE8 and Firefox 3.5. However, when I perform the same exercise on the XP machine it seems to work properly. Is there an issue with this version of Vista?

My guess is that you'll gain some additional insight as to why the limitation is 4 records by going to the following:

I'm not sure why the default is French, but you can "fix" that by adding the gl and hl criteria as in the following statement:

select * from google.search (4,8) where q = "pizza" and gl="en" and hl="en"

Notice that you can pull the next four results using (4,8) and so on. Hope that helps some...

The XML->JSON conversion can be lossy, especially in specifically this case where you have more than one content node at the same level so you are only seeing the second one. If you are returning HTML I suggest that you use XML instead. You can even do that with JSONP by specifying a callback but setting the format to xml.

What kind of access will my application require to be able access those infomation ?

As longs as you selected the profiles scope when you created your oauth application you should have access to all of the profile data. Can you send the snippet of code yyou are using?

How frequently are you making calls to the API? If you don't put in a delay in between calls, maybe you're being throttled.

From the Delicious API docs :-

Please wait AT LEAST ONE SECOND between queries, or you are likely to get automatically throttled. If you are releasing a library to access the API, you MUST do this. Please watch for 500 or 999 errors and back-off appropriately. It means that you have been throttled.

I have been trying to get this to work for weeks now with no luck. I am trying to import contacts into a database from within a program. I successfully get the access token but get a 401 error when trying to get the contact information. Here are my basesignature, signature, and request header along with the code to get them. Was missing a space in my Auth header so the unable to determine oauth type went away now however I am getting a "signature invalid" Has anyone been succesful using the OauthBase.cs with this yahoo contact API? Why is this so difficult. Am I not suppose to include some values when passing information to the generate signature. ie leave one of the parameters as string.empty instead of having a value. And why does it respond back with a = sign at the end vs. %3D right now I am just manually finding the length stripping off the = sign and the adding the %3D I have tried a hundred different ways with no success so frustrating. Can someone provide the actual code used in C# to generate a signature using the oauthbase.cs or even creating the string by hand.

I'm having some problems defining the images for the YAP app we have developed.

I have specified images for the 64x64 image (and several others) but it is not being fetched/cached correctly. The image location I have entered is:

But when trying to view the cached image, the following message results:

Hi Nestoria,

Did you click on the "update live" button after adding the image on the dashboard? I ran into the same problem as you when I first added the URL for the image but when I updated live the images showed up.

We've updated live several times since we have updated the images but no luck.

Given the error displayed when requesting the cached image, I suspect the problem lies there.

On the attachments area there is a button on the right hand that reads "Photo Size", you can change it from "Reduced" to "Original". There is a small chance that you are still on the older version of Mail, if the Photo Size button is not there, check the "Options" menu to the right of the attachment's progress bar.

It seems the access token given out via a YAP app cannot really be used to make calls to Yahoo Updates API, since refresh_access_token call does not work against the access_token given out by YAP app. Is there a way around this issue.

There are some slight differences with the on-site version of OAuth versus the off-site version, which is probably the cause of your issues. I have had luck with setting some user preferences using the tokens provided by an on-site application so we may be able to find some solution.

YQL and dapper: a beautiful couple

Hi,

YQL Open Tables and Dapper make a beautiful couple for html scraping. The disadvantage of Dapper for creating uniform API's on existing webpages is that it doesn't allow for fine-grained tweaking of the contents, like e.g. string matching or logical operations on the contents. The disadvantage of YQL Open Tables (with Javascript execute) is that extracting relevant fields from (badly structured) html is not that easy to program, even using the flexible E4X xml object operations.

Combining both services solves both disadvantages! I use Dapper to create a high-level API that extracts the relevant portions of the webpage and this is fed into an Open Table as xml. The Open Table allows for detailed analysis and formatting of the data. The coding is minimal.

The only thing that worries me, is the reliability of Dapper. It's reporting server overload quite often. Is Dapper really the only visual html scraping tool around?

Are there any code examples of this? Where would I put the cookie management code, in the execute element I take it?

Secure Data Transfer

There doesn't seem to be a way to securely transfer data over the last leg from Yahoo to the actual client. The client portion of my application needs to transfer data securely either from the YAP directly (doesn't seem possible) or from an external site.

Caja seems to prevent the most common workarounds.

Has anyone else encountered this? More importantly, solved this?
