YQL html extractor seems that it doesn't handle any encoding specs in the target document.

Here is a query againt a blog site written in `euc-jp' encoding:

I'm just trying out Y!OS PHP SDK, and I'm stuck with the very first example. In the example, http://developer.yahoo.com/oauth/guide/oauth-auth-flow.html, there is a reference to a method, YahooSession::createAuthorizationUrl(CONSUMER_KEY, CONSUMER_SECRET, $callback). But this does not work. (I'm including Yahoo.inc file with the correct include path.) In fact, according to the api doc, YahooSession class does not contain such a method.

In another example, http://developer.yahoo.com/social/updates/demo.html, there is a line, YahooAuthentication::createAuthorizationUrl($this->createRequestToken(), $callbackUrl), which again does not work. Where is this class YahooAuthentication?

I've been looking all over, but just couldn't find the answers. Is this because the docs are out-dated? Are these examples supposed to work? Are we supposed to use a different APIs for OAuth? Is anybody using Yahoo OAuth apps? ...

Thanks for following up. I made some progress since I posted the question.

[1] YahooSession::createAuthorizationUrl() actually exists in the current version of Yahoo.inc, and I've verified it works. Thanks.
[2] The api doc, http://developer.yahoo.com/social/php_api/annotated.html, seems to be a bit out-dated since this method is not listed, among other things. In fact, the doc says it was "Generated on Thu Nov 20 12:23:17 2008".
[3] The second example I quoted is also out-dated (and possibly wrong). Apparently, the "private" class YahooAuthentication has been changed to YahooAuthorization, which is still marked as "@private" in the source.

I have been working with OAuth for a while and have talked to a couple of other developers too.
The Documentation, in my view is pretty much complete. But it would be good if there is a section on Token Management.
The PHP sdk has a simple token management class, which is mentioned no where in the documentation.
I believe it would be good to highlight that token management has to be implemented by the developer.
A documentation covering the basics of Token management, and a section on Security and precautions while saving information on servers should be introduced in the documentation.

I want to develop a Yahoo! App for http://apps.yahoo.com/myapps that will grab content from a particular RSS feed, parse the XML nodes, and render the data with HTML and CSS. Does Yahoo! provide any wrapper functions to grab external feed content from third-party feeds? For comparison, this is achieved in Google Gadgets with the following Google API functions:

_IG_FetchContent(url, func) Returns and operates on the content at url as text. This is the function you should use for working with HTML content.
_IG_FetchXmlContent(\url, func) Returns and operates on the XML content at url as a DOM object.
_IG_FetchFeedAsJSON(url, func, num_entries, get_summaries) Returns and operates on the feed content at url in JSON format.

What is the Yahoo! equivalent? Do you have any examples you can provide?

Problems:
I couldn't figure out how to use insert and replace from your example code. I couldn't get yml:a to show and hide text by adding <div>. It seems like there are something missing. It is not clear enough how to use insert and replace.

I don't think this is a mistake. I think you are confusing PLAINTEXT and HMAC-SHA1, since the ampersand & symbol is only visible if you are using PLAINTEXT encoding. The code above is using HMAC-SHA1.

This is a valid concern in the sample code but this is a superficial change. Since the directory path to the SDK is on a user’s server, this path will be changed anyways – this will not affect development but I have sent this same information to the docs team so they will probably revise this in the next docs iteration.

This code sample works perfectly for me. I think this error might come up if you have no contacts or connections (but that's just a guess). Can you verify whether you do have contacts / connections please. With that information we'll take another look.

getContactbyGuid is no longer a method in the SDK. I've sent this same note to the docs team that on http://developer.yahoo.com/social/php_guid...l_tutorial.html under “Getting User Contacts”, references to the getContactByGuid method should be removed.

#1 – This process seems to work fine for me

I confirmed that Canvas View won't allow you to define key and secret this way

This define statement will cause errors.

Even I use a safer way to define the key and secret, I am still getting the same error reported on Post#23

$consumerKeySecret = "xxx"

Note: I do have Contacts, Connections, and Status Message in my Yahoo Profile. I was able to pull the data array via PHP SDK and YQL. In short your mysocial.php sample code is not working. After rendering the $user_profile & $user_updates, it failed on parsing the arrays $user_contacts and the rest.

See my fixes on Post #31. You are welcome to use my code in your sample code. You need to limit on the data within the buffer.

I also create a new application with new API and secret and test mysocial.php. It works. EXCEPT I can't use define statement for key and secret as it generates errors. Once I use the safer method for key and secret, then everything work.

The description for attributes replace and insert are identical in the yml:a documentation. I suspect the explanations under yml:form are the correct ones. Please confirm.

The Yahoo! Open Social docs are very nice. We're looking at creating documentation for our RESTful service, and we're wondering what tools and processes are used to generate the docs, keep them in sync with the API, etc.

Have looked through the docs, but I'm unable to find any info on how to create new Connections between users. Did I miss this somewhere, or is this not possible with the current APIs?

The Connections API is read only, so you can get a Yahoo! user's connections if authorized by the Yahoo! user, but you cannot create connections programmatically for the user. Only Yahoo! users can create connections, and they can only do that from their Yahoo! Profile page.

I see. This detail might be important to point out as having gone through most of the Y!OS/YAP Docs didn't reveal any info that these APIs are meant to leverage on the connections that profiles.yahoo.com will create.

Just tried creating connections via profiles.yahoo.com and all the persons I invited were able to see the invitation but clicking on the link takes them to the contacts tab with nothing to get them to accept the connection invite.

As long as the people you invited have Yahoo! accounts, they should be able to accept your invitation from their profile page. If they choose not to accept your invitation, you would just become one of their contacts.

I have invited connections from my profile page and accepted connections from links in email invites and from my profile page, but I haven't come across the issue that you mention.

I will investigate the matter, but please try sending another connection invite to one of your friends. Be sure to tell them to accept and let me know if the problem persists.

Thanks! After trying again, my friends and I were finally able to accept the connection invitations. We couldn't repeat the problem, but it did require us several reloads of the Contacts tab from profiles. Now we can start playing with the API Thanks!

Check the step 4 and 5. There is some ambiguity on how to refresh the "Access Token" once it expires. Step 4 talks about getting a session handle and a expiry time for that handle (see the table not the response string) but no where that is used in step 5.

Also it has no detials on how long the request token is valid.

Is session_handle analogous to user hash in BBAuth?
