But unfortunatly cal value is set to 15/Jan/1970 15:26:47. blink.gif

BrowserPlus is a Yahoo product - http://browserplus.yahoo.com/. It is used to make it easier to attach files to Yahoo Mail. It is OK to allow it to have access to the internet.

I'll see if I can recreate a similar scenario. What platform are you running BrowserPlus on? Are you uploading to localhost or a remote web server? What web server are you using?

On the attachments area there is a button on the right hand that reads "Photo Size", you can change it from "Reduced" to "Original". I have a very simple implementation of the Browserplus Uploader. When uploading 1 file, no problem. When uploading 2 or more, it works once or twice but I usually get the crash dialog -- "BrowserPlusCore has encountered a problem and needs to close".

Here's my simple html file:

I wonder if you'd be willing to try a couple things... First are you able to reproduce the bug on 2.5.0? You can uninstall browserplus then install 2.5.0 from here:

Either way, would you be willing to open up a bug, here:

The final thing would be providing a small sample site and steps to reproduce.

It really sounds like a bug in browserplus, as the BrowserPlusCore process should never crash, no matter what you do to it. Possibly interesting information are *what* files you drag in order to make it crash?

Thanks for the response.

I just tried version 2.5, but I still get the same crash. I closed all Firefox browsers prior to trying it.

The files I'm uploading are just jpeg files. They are just around 278KB each.

I dont drag and drop. I just use the "Browse..." link.

Uploading 1 file - no problems.

Uploading 2 to 4 files are inconsistent. Sometime it works, sometimes it crashes.

Crash almost always takes place with 5 or more files.

Unfortunately, as for the sample site, the system is currently not accessible outside.

But I did click on the "Send Report" when the new crashed happened. Hopefully that helps too.

I have developed a web app, that is widely used in our company (200+ users) as a primary tool to work with. Basically everything is okay, if not BrowserPlus would crash quite often. How can I debug this and how can I provide useful information to you?

I see basically two scenarios:
1. The complete plugin crashes and is available after a restart of the browser.
2. BrowserPlus can't be initialized on a page load, after reload everything works just fine.

Alas, in version 1.0.7, no. However, we'll soon be pushing a new version of zipper which has a "zipFileName" argument which lets you specify the name of the zip file. This push should happen "real soon now".

In a PC where is not installed McAfee Antivirus and WinZip is actually installed, there is no problem using BrowserPlus.Zipper.createZip().

But in a PC where McAfee Antivirus is installed and WinZip is not installed (but ZipCentral and 7-zip are installed), then BrowserPlus.Zipper.createZip() doesn't work.

I don't know C++, but reading source code of browserplus-bp-zipper-331e059, I see that it is used allways UTF8. Non-ascii systems uses UTF7 encoding.
By instance, there is this function in program service.cpp:

The .lz format that is produced by the LZMA service is compatible with the lzip tool, available here: http://www.nongnu.org/lzip/lzip.html

the easylzma library also ships with some command line tools and could decompress these files:
http://github.com/lloyd/easylzma

The library we use is "easylzma", it also supports the "LZMA Alone" format as well, but is currently hardcoded to lzip. the two are trivially different, with the header of the two being the main difference.

OK I have an HP Pavilion a6620f PC running on a 64 bit Windows Vita Premium at Home OS, I am using Firefox 3.5.6 and IE8 and Opera 9.64 and my provider is Comcast. This addition would give a big boost to applications that involve uploading files, since users will be able to select the top level folder of a complex structure and the application will be able to reconstruct that structure on the remote site.

From a security standpoint It seems to jive with the other rules we've imposed. When you drop a file into a page you're allowing the page to interact with it... But, we've been holding off on changing the way selections are returned now because we have bigger plans. Here's the summary:

Today, both FileBrowse and DragAndDrop have very complicated return values. They both are capable of performing recursion, mime type filtering, and a host of other stuff. The problem is every time we add something in one place, it's got to be added in another. Furthermore, there are some types of services we would like to write that would return folders, and we'd have to replicate the features there too. So we hope to release 2.x versions of the FileBrowse and DragAndDrop services which return *exactly* what the user drops. No special manipulation. Then we would implement the various ways to recurse, extract nested files by mime type, or whatnot in a separate service. By moving this code into a distinct service it will be common between these two services, and perhaps useful in other ways in the future.

How's all that sound to you?

Now, as far as source code availablility, currently FileBrowse and DragAndDrop are part of the platform. BrowserPlus is used to create a better Yahoo Mail attachment experience, where you can drag+drop files and photos from your desktop directly into your email message. BrowserPlus is usually installed through:

  1. Yahoo Mail the first time you click Attach
  2. Yahoo Messenger 10


BrowserPlus only runs when you actually use it (for example, actually attaching files within Yahoo Mail). Otherwise, it does not run in the background, just using disk space and not CPU. If you don't need it, BrowserPlus can easily be uninstalled through the Control Panel in Windows or System Preferenes on the Mac.

In the end I have deleted the whole of Yahoo!Xtra Mail" and the Messenger as well.
I have Windows XP and I was using the programme...Ask, Answer, Discover.
I just want it remove,d so if I get it removed and decide to use the same programme again, I suppose I will end up with the same problem.

Right, it's BrowserPlus that makes attachments easier. It should not be a resource hog. It only runs when you actually visit a web page that uses BrowserPlus (Yahoo Mail attachments). Otherwise, it just takes a little bit of disk space and does not run in the background.

Today when I tried to attach a file I was offered the new BrowserPlus. I selected "maybe later" and chose not to install BrowserPlus at that moment. I have tried several times, and both Firefox 3.5.5 and Internet Explorer 7 now close immediately after pressing "Attach". Remember I chose NOT to install BrowserPlus.

I logged in with a different yahoo acount, tried to attach a file, and again I was offered BrowserPlus, I declined, and now every time I press "Attach", both browsers will close unexpectedly with this different account. I can't attach files anymore with any account. I have gone back to Yahoo Classic, and attach works fine.

Whenever I restart Firefox after it closed unexpectedly, it won't restore the previous session unless I deselect the tab where I was using Yahoo Mail.

I don't know how I wound up with this application, but I don't want it. I'm trying to uninstall it, so I've run the uninstaller, and every time I do, I get an error message that says 'bpuninstaller.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close', and then it crashes out the program.

I tried redownloading the program, so that any erroneous files would be replaced so I could uninstall it, and again, when I try to install it, I get an error that says, 'An error was encountered during the installation of BrowserPlus. Error encountered during installation.'

What gives??

Please tell me how to get this off my computer. It's just taking up space right now, and not really wanted AT ALL!

I also have the problem of not being able to uninstall BrowserPlus which seemed to have piggybacked on my Yahoo Messenger installation. It give me the option to uninstall but every time I try to remove it, I get the following message: "bpuninstall.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. Sorry for the inconvenience." I have Windows XP and Mozilla Firefox. I don't know anything about computers so I didn't really understand your instructions to manually uninstall the program. I am having the same problem with Mac OS 10 Leopard. Every time yahoo mail loads Safari crashes. Looking around the internet at other computer fix sites this seems to be a major problem for everyone. Why would yahoo be so irresponsible as to put out a plug in like this. Either they are incompetent or have have some other issue.

Also, If you can provide a stack trace, that would really help out. If you search for the CrashReporterPrefs application on your map and temporarily set it to "Developer", you'll get a pop up window when safari crashes that let's you view "crash details". If you were to make that available to us it would help us track your issue down.

I have a similar problem. The installation program runs up to 67% but it doesn´t give me any error... it just stay there.
I´m using Mac OS X 10.5.8. 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 duo. Usually I use Firefox 3.5.6.
I could install it without problems on my pc with Windows XP, and also on another Mac at work like the one I described before... but i could not install it on my Mac at home. I´ve tryed also with Safari... but it´s the same.
