Open Hack Day update

Hello hackers!

We're barely under two weeks before the first Yahoo! Open Hack Day kicks off and I wanted to give an update for various areas. Planning is moving apace and we're super-excited about hosting you at Yahoo! Here are some updates in specific areas:

Invites

Based on the list of those marked "attending" on our Upcoming.org page and responses to our form at the bottom of the hackday.org homepage, we've been sending out invites via email. Early on, we focused on people who indicated that they were going to have to make significant travel arrangements and we are expecting hackers from places far and wide. Not all invites have gone out to locals yet (at least the ones we can identify). Expect those to trickle out for the rest of this week. Again, we're prioritizing in favor of hackers when sending out our invites.

Friday developer workshop

A key element of our upcoming Yahoo! Open Hack Day is the Developer Workshop we're hosting on Friday before the hacking commences. Eric Miraglia provides all the details on the YUI blog. If you're interested in the Developer Workshop, be sure to say that when you fill out the form! You don't want to miss this opportunity to learn from and interact with the best minds in the industry.

Entertainment

We've lined up some pretty amazing entertainment. If you're joining us on Friday evening, be sure to arrive in time to get registered and settled by 8pm. We're expecting registration for the weekend (for those of you not already attending the Friday workshop) to begin at 5:30pm.

Hardware

A few people have asked if we are providing hardware (i.e. laptops) for attendees to hack on. Unfortunately, we can't provide hardware -- though we might be able to spare a hammer for you to nail down your tent stakes.

More to come. . . .
